Texas Steps Up to National Commander’s Red Kettle Challenge

Nov 8, 2022

Commissioners Kenneth & Jolene Hodder ring bells with HGTV stars Ben & Erin Napier

On Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, National Commander for The Salvation Army in the United States, will once again be pitting his bell-ringing skills against Salvation Army Officers, staff, volunteers, and supporters from Salvation Army locations around the nation. This is all part of the National Commander’s Red Kettle Challenge with a goal to raise $1.5 million nationwide!

The challenge is simple: Try to raise more money than Commissioner Hodder during a designated four-hour shift outside a local Walmart on Dec. 9. All challengers are welcome, including anyone from the community.

More than $1.1 million was raised as part of the challenge in 2021, with the McAllen, Texas, Corps finishing in third place in the nation, raising an incredible $107,031 in just four hours!

To participate, check with your local Salvation Army and get involved to support this special challenge. The goal is to raise $1 million in Texas alone this year as part of the Commissioner’s challenge.
