Winter Warmth: The Heart of St. Louis Unites at the Winterize Kids Event

Dec 13, 2023

In the heart of Florissant on Saturday, December 9th, the community came together for "Winterize Kids," an event dedicated to providing jackets, clothing, and helpful winter items to children and families.

Organized by the Spreading Our Love Foundation and iHeart Media, and sponsored by Spire, Winterize Kids was more than just an event; it was a celebration of family, community, and unity. The air buzzed with live music, courtesy of BJ The DJ Holliday, creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration amidst the chilly weather.

Rows of colorful coats were given out, ready to wrap kids in warmth. The sight of children trying on jackets, while their faces lit up with smiles, was a reminder of the simple joys in life.

The American Heart Association contributed to this noble event by distributing CPR kits to families, and The Salvation Army provided hot chocolates, water, and prayer with its Emergency Disaster Services Canteen.

Major Adam Moore, General Secretary and St. Louis Area Commander of The Salvation Army, expressed his deep appreciation for the community's efforts: "Nothing warms my heart more than our community in action and unity. We are very proud to be a small part of the Winterize Kids event," he said. Major Moore's words echoed the sentiment of gratitude towards iHeart Media, BJ The DJ, Roy Anderson Jr., Clement Auto Group, Spire, Alpha Kappa Alpha, and the many other community supporters who made this event possible.

Roy Anderson Jr., Senior Account Executive of iHeart Media, and The Salvation Army Midland Division's Board Vice Chair, shared his appreciation, “We are grateful to everyone who came out to support Winterize Kids. We are here to help the underserved and we do it with gratitude in our hearts. We appreciate everyone who helped to make the event happen!”

As families left, bundled up in their new coats, and the taste of hot chocolate on their lips, there was a shared feeling of gratitude. Major Moore's closing words resonated with everyone: "We pray everyone stays warm and healthy this winter!" It was a day where the community truly came together, proving that even the coldest winters can be warmed by the spirit of unity and love.
