WESTLAKE ACE HARDWARE CUSTOMERS HELP THE SALVATION ARMY’S VULNERABLE STAY COOL

Jul 8, 2022

Thanks to the generous customers of Westlake Ace Hardware, The Salvation Army community’s most vulnerable to heat illness will be receiving 88 new box fans to help keep cool during summer months.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Westlake Ace Hardware working with the Salvation Army on the fan drive.

Donations were collected from June 1-19 at St. Louis-area Westlake Ace Hardware stores, from offering customers an option to round up at the register.

Excessive heat can be deadly. Heat-related illness is a top cause of weather-related deaths.

The Salvation Army’s Social Services department circulates the fans among clients based on need, such as people with illness, the elderly, and people who do not have the means for cooling.

On days like today, we are experiencing higher temperatures that places those with limited resources at risk due to these temperatures,” said Major Kjell Steinsland, General Secretary and Regional Commander, Midland Division. “A fan not only provides comfort to others, but it could be the difference between life and death to the most vulnerable.”

Major Kjell added, “We are so thankful to our friends at Westlake Ace Hardware for the 88 fans they have contributed to The Salvation Army to distribute to families and the elderly.”
