The Army Comes to Flood Aid at Multi-Agency Resource Centers Around St. Louis Aug. 2-6
In response to last week’s record-setting flash flooding in the St. Louis region, The Salvation Army will be setting up five multi-agency resource centers (MARCs) throughout the metro area Tuesday through Friday, to offer resources to survivors.
The Salvation Army MARCs, through its Emergency Disaster Services, will offer food, water, financial support based on need, case management, clean-up kits, and emotional and spiritual care from The Salvation Army’s Major Fred Mead.
The MARC events will happen at the following locations and times:
Tuesday, Aug. 2: Element Church, 100 Mall Pkwy., Unit 500, Wentzville, Mo., 63385, 3 – 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 3: John F. Kennedy Community Center, 315 Howdershell Rd., Florissant, Mo., 63031, 3 – 8 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 4: Centennial Commons, 7210 Olive Blvd., University City, Mo., 63130, 3 – 8 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 5: Friendly Temple, 5515 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 3 – 8 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 6: St. Louis City, location to be determined. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Last week’s flash floods broke the record for wettest 24-hour period in St. Louis’ recorded history, with about 10 inches of rain. One fatality was reported, and more than a hundred people were reported stranded. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson declared a state of emergency July 26.
“This is one of those situations where a disaster hits everybody, regardless of what economic group you’re in, that you are hit hard like that,” Major Kjell Steinsland, General Secretary and St. Louis Area Commander for the Midland Division. “There are many people who have been in need.”
Supplies for pick up include water, blankets, and a well-appointed flood kit, the latter of which has N95 masks, latex gloves, mops, sponges, disinfectant, deodorizer, cleaner, squeegees, plastic bags, broom handles, and scrub brushes.
