National Salvation Army Week Commemorates “Doing the Most Good” with Original Content Online
St. Louis, Mo. – The Salvation Army Midland Division welcomed today the annual return of National Salvation Army Week, from May 10 – 16, celebrating the Red Shield’s accomplishments around the world. NSAW turns 67 this year, after President Dwight Eisenhower and Congress dedicated the day in 1954. The occasion encourages all people to give, donate and help others.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 40 million Americans live in poverty, and millions more live near the poverty line. Approximately half of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and one-third of adults between 18 and 64 live in low-income households. And after a year of devastation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need is greater than it has ever been. The Salvation Army provides clothing, food, shelter, compassion and many other services for those in need.
As part of its celebration, the Salvation Army’s Midland Division is hosting an exciting round of new content throughout the week. This includes exclusive interviews with St. Louis native Cedric the Entertainer and chart-topping Christian band MercyMe, a video walk-through tour of the O’Fallon TSA Food Pantry, and a report from our May 1 food distribution event in East. St. Louis. Stay tuned each day for new videos, photos and stories. #FightForGood
