St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones Proclaims 2023 "St. Louis Salvation Army Week"
Major Kjell Steinsland, Salvation Army General Secretary and St. Louis Area Commander, accepts the 2023 "St. Louis Salvation Army Week" proclamation on Monday, May 15, 2023 in the Mayor's office at the St. Louis City Hall.
The Salvation Army is proud to announce that Mayor Tishaura Jones has proclaimed May 15-21, 2023, as "St. Louis Salvation Army Week." This proclamation is a recognition of the Salvation Army's impact and commitment to meeting human needs without discrimination in St. Louis and to inspire all St. Louisans to join in helping one another during these challenging times.
The Salvation Army, one of St. Louis's largest social service providers, is possible thanks to the dedication of officers, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
It operates social services programs in corps community centers throughout the city to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. These programs include shelter for people experiencing homelessness, Christmas gifts for children and seniors, food pantries, emergency assistance, rehabilitation for substance use disorders, support for survivors of human trafficking, after-school and mentoring programs, music education, disaster relief, and support for veterans.
"At a time when many people are living in poverty, we believe that by working together, we can positively impact the lives of those in need by providing service, love, and hope,” said Major Kjell Steinsland, General Secretary and St. Louis Area Commander. "During this special week, we ask all the residents of St. Louis to come together in service to make a significant difference in the lives of others.”
"St. Louis Salvation Army Week" coincides with National Salvation Army Week, which was first proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954. The Salvation Army serves 24 million people around the country annually.
The Salvation Army is grateful for the support of Mayor Tishaura Jones and the people of St. Louis. Together, we can make a lasting impact on our communities.
