On May 16, 2025, a series of devastating tornadoes ranging from EF2 to EF4 tore through Missouri and Illinois, leaving a trail of destruction and heartbreak. The Salvation Army sprang into action. Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) teams were deployed immediately and have since provided support to tens of thousands of impacted individuals.
- 113,983 combined meals, snacks and beverages served
- 1,533 supplies provided, including tarps, hygiene kits, infant supplies and cleanup kits
- 417 emotional and spiritual connections made
- 200+ volunteers provided over 2,000 hours of service
In St. Louis City and County, more than 9,000 homes have major damage or are destroyed. Cleanup efforts will continue long-term as The Salvation Army and other state and local agencies work to support the community and impacted residents.
A Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) has been set up and is now open at Chaifetz Arena (1 S Compton Ave, St. Louis, MO 63103). The DAC will provide opportunities for impacted individuals to seek utility and financial assistance, case management, and receive fans as we approach warmer temperatures, as well as meals and toiletry/hygiene kits. The DAC is open June 9-12, 16-18 and 23-26 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees are asked to first register and secure an appointment time via the City of St. Louis website.
We are also seeking volunteers to staff the DAC over the next several weeks. The first shift is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the second shift is from 2 to 7:30 p.m. The minimum age for this event is 18.
Volunteers will be: distributing snacks, toiletry bags and other materials; assisting survivors in completing the one-page intake form; and providing emotional and spiritual care.

The Salvation Army has provided over 2,500 meals daily via roving canteens and fixed feedings sites; delivered tarps, toiletry kits, and power access for medical equipment; and coordinated with local and state agencies, as well as NGOs, to ensure that resources are deployed where they’re needed most.
As the community begins to heal, The Salvation Army remains steadfast in its mission: to serve without prejudice, to bring comfort in crisis, and to ensure that no one walks this road to recovery alone.
