ANGEL TREE GIFT SHOPPING STARTS FOR 2022
Just another Monday morning before Angel Tree gifts are given out to children across St. Louis!
The Salvation Army’s Women’s Auxiliary and officers were hard at work in a local cavernous Wal-Mart, running between departments to shop for boys and girls for Christmas gifts.
The date is Nov. 7, so we still have more than a month before toys go out to more than 4,000 kids around the metro area. But each of those children’s Christmas wish lists must be shopped for, individually, just like Santa Claus does every year.
“I love that the Women’s Auxiliary loves doing this,” said Angel Tree Director Lt. Col. Collette Webster. “Their biggest thing they like to do is serve. Serving children and the community is a great thing for them, and they love it.”
Big red bags to collect gifts have the basics, like kids’ shirts, coats, pants – but they also have fun toys, such as Fortnite credit cards and Spider-man action figures. Or, there is a kids’ Huffy bike to the side.
“The community knows us and expects us out there,” Lt. Col. Collette said. “I think people are excited about it and want to be part of the Angel Tree process.”
Lt. Col. Collette and the Women’s Auxiliary were joined by Angel Tree Coordinator Lauren Shelton, who is managing her first Angel Tree campaign.
“It’s just fun to see it all come together,” Shelton said, with an excited smile. “Everything is coming into place. We start at the warehouse this week.”
Gifts can be dropped off from Nov. 8 through Dec. 1 at the Angel Tree distribution center, located at 10634 St. Charles Rock Rd.
Angels can be adopted at salarmymidland.org through Nov. 30.
